“How did it get so late so soon?” ~ Dr Seuss
Time slips through our fingers, it’s elusive and elastic. What we do in our minutes determines what gets done in our days, which shapes our months, our years, and of course, our lives.
How to use your precious minutes wisely
Step 1 : Do ONE thing
… and one thing only. You may think you are a master multi-tasker, but, I’m so sad to have to tell you, multi-tasking is a myth.
I used to buy into it too.
It was so invigorating to be doing ten things at once- as a mom, it sort of comes with the territory. But in business, multi-tasking leaves you mired in the muck of an endless to-do list.
You won’t finish anything if you are trying to do everything at once.
Enter the Timer:
Get your most important thing to do in front of you, clear the space around you, set your timer for 40 minutes, and have at it. Give your brain a chance to focus on just one thing, and see where you can go. Our soul longs to get into flow, and this is a great way to get there. You will not find flow with every task, but you’ll at least get to cross it off your list!
Step 2: Do NOthing
EEk! I said it. Doing nothing can help you be productive. I mean this in the best sense of doing nothing. I don’t mean sitting there worrying about everything you have to do. I mean, quite literally, doing nothing.
Just being…
breathing…
creating space in your head, in your heart, in your soul…
Give yourself a few minutes to do NOthing between rounds of doing ONE thing, and before you know it, EVERYthing important will get done.
